Про Пола Робсона

Оказывается, Принстонский центр искусств не зря носит имя Пола Робсона: он родился в Принстоне и жил тут в детстве. В Советском Союзе его все знали (ну, может, и не все-все, но все, кого я знала :)). Он часто к нам приезжал и пел по радио и телевизору, а в Москве и некоторых других местах, говорят, и живьём. Начал ездить ещё в 30-е, со многими "феллоу-тревелерами", но видимо оказался самым стойким из них, за что получил сталинскую премию.

Я родилась, когда Сталин уже умер, но Пола Робсона успела увидеть-услышать по радио-телевизору. Голос у него был низкий и глубокий, пробирал до мозга костей.
